Ariel Amaral
SUP has become a huge part of my life since I first discovered it in 2008. I am now a Team Rider,
Event Coordinator, Certified Paddle Canada Instructor & PaddleFit Level 3 Coach for BluWave &
BluWave SUP Academy. I have been racing for BluWave for 4 seasons, earning the WOMANS
OVERALL SERIES CHAMPION title in 2014 & the WOMANS ELITE CHAMPION in 2013. I
compete in SUP Surf under the ESA, winning the WEST SHORE LAKE HURON FRESH WATER
CLASSIC in 2014 & GAILS OF NOVEMBER in 2013. In 2015 I organized the First Annual
BLUWAVE PADDLE 4 THE CURE raising over $15,000 for the CBCF. I love to be around the
water like a true SUP Mermaid.
Where do you currently live?
Off Kempenfelt Bay, Barrie ON
What was your first SUP experience?
I tried SUP for the first time in Hawaii, tandem with my
hubby attempting to ride small waves at Waikiki
What do you like to do most on a SUP?
I love to use SUP as a vehicle for adventure, speed,
discovery, instruction, fitness and friends & family time.
Where is your favourite spot to paddle?
I love to paddle across Ontario, discovering different
waterways from my own backyard on Lake Simcoe to all of
the Great Lakes. There are some truly magical lakes up
north where the water is clear and the only distractions
are wildlife.
What do you like to do when not paddling?
When not paddling, I teach snowboarding, enjoy snowshoeing travelling
and spending time with my family & friends including my dog Jett
Favourite Bluwave Board?
My favourite Blu Wave board is the Carbon Race 12'6". I love to race it
on weekends but also use it to train, paddle with friends, do SUP Yoga
and paddle around with my baby boy so we can both go fast
Favourite Bluwave Board?
My favourite moment on a SUP was becoming the first woman to
complete the 65km SUP4MS charity paddle across Lake Ontario,
leading the group with the Blu Wave founder, Aaron Pilon
